Wincanton Hosts Inaugural Charity Sidesaddle Race

Wincanton Racecourse will play host to the first-ever sidesaddle charity flat race in Britain. The event, which will take place on Sunday 25 October, will raise money for the Southern Spinal Injuries Trust (SSIT), celebrating the Somerset track’s two-season association with the charity.

The fundraiser will see 11 female jockeys in traditional sidesaddle attire race to the finish line. The riders taking part all have a wealth of sidesaddle experience, as well as hunting and point-to-point skills.

“We at the Stewart family know every spinal-cord injury is different and has a devastatingly instant effect on that person’s way of life,” said Paul Stewart of the Andy Stewart Charitable Foundation, the organisation sponsoring the race. “For this reason we support the Southern Spinal Injuries Trust – a fantastic and much-needed regional charity that helps people affected by SCI to get on with their lives.”

As well as watching the event, racegoers will have the opportunity to attend an auction and a silent auction in aid of the Trust. Advance tickets for the inaugural sidesaddle start from £16 and are available at Donations to the charity can be made directly via the website:
